The Handmade Pie and Ale House, Weymouth

This time last week I was on the beach in Weymouth getting sunburnt. Okay, the last bit wasn’t much fun but the rest of the day was great. We ended the day at The Handmade Pie and Ale House eating loads of food and wondering if it was going to stop raining before it was time to go home.

My mum and dad went to the Handmade Pie and Ale House just after it opened and loved it so we booked to go back when we were visiting last week. They have a selection of ales which you can try before choosing one and their pies change every day.

After choosing our drinks we decided which pies we’d like. There’s loads of choice and if you don’t fancy a pie there’s a whole other menu! I was torn between their 4 cheese macaroni and the cauliflower, broccoli and cheese pie. In the end I went for the pie with chips and a salad (I know, I was concerned that I had salad too).

My pie was really tasty with big pieces of broccoli and cauliflower and a rich cheesey sauce. The chips and salad were good and it was a good size portion. Billy had Steak and Ale and my dad had Cow Pie which have both won awards and the Cow Pie had pastry horns! My mum had corned beef with mashed potato and mushy peas and there was plenty of gravy to go around. I think everyones plate was empty!

I wasn’t going to have pudding but I changed my mind because I thought I’m on holiday so why not?! I had brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and my mum had a scoop of chocolate ice cream, both of which were Purbeck ice cream which is made nearby.

We had a really good time and I’ve nothing bad to say about it. The ale was good, the food tasty and the service was friendly. If you’re in the area you definitely have to go and try a handmade pie!
