Todays vintage recipe is from a Cadbury’s Novelty Chocolate Cookbook first published in the late 80’s. There’s loads of fun recipes in it from big cakes shaped like calculators and dartboards to smaller sweet treats including some rather odd looking chicks and these little space invaders.

You could use any little sweets or chocolate to decorate them. I used Cadbury Fingers and Buttons. You could even use icing pens to pipe more detail onto each individual cake!

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180ºc and grease 15 bun tins (I used two cupcake tins).

Mix together the margarine, caster sugar, fluor, cocoa powder, marmalade and eggs.

Step 2

Put a heaped teaspoon of mixture into each bun tin and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Buttercream

To make the buttercream mix the butter/margarine, icing sugar and vanilla extract. Halve the buttercream and add the cocoa powder to one half.

Cover 7 of the buns with he chocolate buttercream, place on digestive biscuits and stick four halves of finger biscuits around each bun and top with cherries. Add another half finger to the top and put a chocolate button on top.

Step 5
Mark as Complete

Cover the base of the remaining buns with chocolate buttercream and the sides with vanilla. Turn them over and put on a digestive. Stick four buttons around each bun and three half fingers on top.

1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
3 tbsp Orange Marmalade

175g Margarine or Unsalted Butter
2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
15 Digestive Biscuits
1 pack Cadbury Chocolate Fingers
2 packs Chocolate Buttons
14 Glace Cherries
