Are Oreos Vegan?

Yes! The Original Oreos are accidentally vegan in the UK! Oreos come in many different flavours and lots of them are vegan as they do not contain egg, dairy or other animal products. Read on to find out which flavours are vegan and if they are suitable for vegans in other countries.

Which Oreo Products Are Vegan?

Original Oreo Biscuits

The original Oreo biscuits are suitable for vegans. This also includes the Double Creme Oreos. The Ingredients in original Oreos are as follows –

WHEAT flour, sugar, palm oil, rapeseed oil, WHEAT starch, fat reduced cocoa powder 4, 7 %, glucose-fructose syrup, raising agents (ammonium carbonates, potassium carbonates, sodium carbonates), salt, emulsifier (SOYA lecithins), acidity regulator (sodium hydroxide), flavourings.

Golden Oreos

Golden Oreos are suitable for vegan too. They are a twist on the original Oreo, switching the chocolate flavour of the biscuit for vanilla.

Limited Editions

Oreo comes out with a lot of limited editions and special flavours. Some of these that have been accidentally vegan include Creme Egg, Vanilla Latte, Gingerbread and a BTS Brown Sugar Pancake flavour.

Where to Buy Oreos

Oreos are widely available in most shops including large supermarkets, corner shops and discount stores. If you want to find more unusual flavours I find the best place to look is in shops like Home Bargains and B&M.

Why Aren’t Oreos Labelled as Suitable For Vegans?

Oreos are often labelled as suitable for vegetarians. They are not labelled as suitable for vegans because the ‘may contain milk’. This is a cross contamination allergen warning and does not mean that milk is an ingredient. As an example, they may be made in the same factory where milk products are used and therefore there is a risk of cross contamination.

Top Tips

• Check the ingredients before buying. Ingredients in recipes can change without notice and not all Oreos are vegan. This post is correct at the time of writing (August 2026).
• Oreos in other countries may not be vegan. For example, some sugar in the USA is made using bone charr sothe sugar in American Oreos may mean they re not accidentally vegan.
