Doctor Who: Fish Fingers and Custard
If you don’t watch Doctor who you might be wondering what’s going on with this post and why on Earth you’d want to eat fish fingers and custard. Let me explain. Doctor Who is a long-running British science fiction television series that first aired in 1963 on the BBC. It is one of the most iconic and influential sci-fi series in television history. The show revolves around the adventures of The Doctor, a mysterious, time-traveling alien from a species called the Time Lords, who comes from the planet Gallifrey.
The Doctor is the central character and is known for their intelligence, resourcefulness, and deep compassion for others. They travel through time and space in their ship the TARDIS. The TARDIS externally appears as a 1960s British police box but is much larger on the inside. The Doctor frequently takes along companions who share in their adventures and provide emotional grounding.
The Doctor has the unique ability to regenerate, a process that occurs when they are mortally wounded or nearing death. This regeneration ability allows The Doctor to change their appearance and personality, effectively giving the show a way to continue with new actors portraying the character. To date, more than a dozen actors have officially played The Doctor, each bringing their own interpretation to the role.
After the Doctor regenerates into Matt Smith (the 11th reincarnation) tries lots of different foods to find something he likes (“new mouth, new rules”). He eventually settles on the unusual combo of fish fingers with custard.
Clearly though I’m not going to just give you a recipe for actual fish fingers and custard. That’s disgusting. These ‘fish fingers’ are actually shortbread! I’ve also included a recipe for custard for custard but you can use the ready made type to save time if you prefer.
To make this recipe vegan you can just switch out the butter in the biscuits for vegan butter. You can then use a ready made vegan custard.
