Salted caramel has had its moment in the spotlight, gracing everything from brownies to lattes. But what if we told you there was a way to take it to the next level? A way to add even more depth, richness, and umami goodness? Enter: Marmite Salted Caramel.
Yes, you read that right. Instead of traditional sea salt, this caramel gets its savoury balance from Marmite. That deeply savoury, love-it-or-hate-it spread we Brits know so well. The sticky, malty richness of Marmite melds beautifully with the buttery sweetness of caramel, creating a sauce that’s equal parts surprising and indulgent. Drizzle it over ice cream, swirl it into brownies, or simply eat it by the spoonful – we won’t judge.
If you’re not in the UK, don’t worry – New Zealand Marmite or even Vegemite will work just as well, each bringing its own slightly different take on that yeasty, umami kick.
Of course, we should probably mention… April Fools!
Yes, this started as a bit of a joke – the idea of replacing salt with Marmite in caramel seemed like something no sane person would actually try. But here’s the thing – it actually works. The Marmite brings the same salty contrast that makes salted caramel so addictive, but with an extra layer of savoury complexity. So while we had a laugh coming up with this, we genuinely think it’s worth a try.
Go on, be brave. Whip up a batch and see for yourself – you might just become a convert. And if not? Well, at least you’ll have had a good laugh along the way.
