Orange Chocolate Chip Loaf
There’s something irresistible about the combination of bright citrus and rich chocolate, and this Orange Chocolate Chip Loaf captures it perfectly. Soft, tender, and bursting with zesty orange flavour, every bite is balanced by little pockets of melty chocolate chunks. It’s the kind of bake that feels equally at home on a cozy breakfast table, as an afternoon treat with coffee, or even dressed up with a dusting of powdered sugar for dessert. Simple to make yet wonderfully indulgent, this loaf is a sweet way to bring a little sunshine into your kitchen.
I made this Orange Chocolate Chip loaf in August because the orange fits well with summer but it would be equally as tasty year round! The addition of chocolate chunks makes it great as a cosy treat in autumn or winter too, and I always think of chocolate orange as a Christmas must have flavour!
The light sponge is made with orange juice and orange extract to get the orange flavour just right. I like to buy a bar of chocolate and chop it myself rather than buy chocolate chips. This means you can make the chunks as big or small as you like. Personally I prefer bigger chunks so get a big pocket of chocolate dotted through the sponge. The loaf cake is topped with an orange glaze made with only icing sugar and orange juice.
