What Are Good Vegan Snacks?

There are a lot of good vegan snacks to be found int he UK. Some are specifically vegan and from vegan or free from brands and some are every day snacks that you might not know are vegan. Below are some good vegan snacks broken up into food groups.

Savoury Snacks

Crisps

A lot of crisps are suitable for vegans but some have milk powder in even if you don’t expect it. However some crisps that might not seem vegan can be – for example some meaty flavours actually don’t contain meat. My favourite crisps are Doritos Chilli Heatwave, Walkers Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli, Hula Hoops Ready Salted and Walkers Smoky Bacon.

Crackers

Lots of crackers are accidentally vegan. I like lightly salted rice cakes, Ryvita sweet onion crispbreads and rosemary and sea salt crackers which you can get at Aldi.

Dips

Perfect to go with your vegan crackers! Hummus is a go to vegan dip. Just make sure to check the ingredients as some brands might contain milk. I really like that hummus can come in different flavours. My favourites are sweet chilli or red pepper hummus. Guacamole is usually vegan too but again check the ingredients.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are naturally vegan and are a great source of protein and other nutrients.

Sweet Snacks

Biscuits

My favourite accidentally vegan biscuits are Jammie Dodgers, Lotus Biscoff and Oreos.

Sweets

A lot of gummy sweets contain gelatine which means they are not vegetarian let alone vegan. My favourite vegan brands are Candy Kittens and Free From Fellows as they come in lots of flavours and you know they will be vegan. Other sweets that you might not know are accidentally vegan are Love Hearts, Fruit Pastilles, Skittles and Starburst.

Chocolate

Most chocolate is not vegan as it contains milk. However some dark chocolate is accidentally vegan. I like to use Morrisons Savers Dark Chocolate for baking because it bakes well, is not too bitter and is easy to find. My favourite vegan chocolate brands are NOMO who do chocolate bars in many flavours, Love Raw (good for Kinder Bueno Dupes) and Catherines Originals. You can also find free from milk and white chocolate in the free from isle of most supermarkets and they usually come in bar or button form.

Frozen Treats

Lots of ice lollies are vegan because they are essentially frozen fruit juice but check the ingredients for any unwanted extra ingredients. My favourite vegan ice cream is Swedish Glace which comes in vanilla, chocolate or raspberry flavour and is easily identified by its octagonal tub. You can even get vegan Cornettos (Aldi also do vegan cornetto style ice creams), vegan Magnum and of course there are some vegan flavours of Ben and Jerrys.
